Technology Helps Power Security Through the
Labor Shortage Era – and Beyond
Retaining and applying human talent to increasingly powerful security technologies and focusing on security officers’ employment experience in the midst of this on-going technology immersion are two of the key insights discussed in a recently published Securitas commentary. Ms. Paryz argues that merging technology with human talent is key, and that information stemming from security devices and systems is just data unless it is coupled with human talent to analyze it. By combining human and digital resources, the security industry can identify trends, make key decisions, and bring insights gathered from any findings to the next level.

The key to the success of this marriage is being able to retain talent while continuing to elevate the security operation. While the fight for hourly wage talent isn’t new to the security sector, labor is still difficult to find and even harder to sustain. Today, employees have a new expectations of what they want from their work experience, how much they work, where they work, and the increasing desire to achieve more work-life balance.
So what earns the long-term loyalty of guards? A focus on their experience.

It’s important to remember that while we continue to implement technology to improve employee experience, productivity, efficiency, and the performance of the security operation, there is no substitute for the human side of security.
